Description
Contrasts can be fascinating. When I first decided to paint Dawns Early Light, I was drawn by the absolute contrasts of the modern city glinting in the rays of the sun as it rose. My source material doesn�t show much but silhouettes of the buildings and the marsh or the flying birds, so I imprvised. One of my favorite TV shows was CSI: Miami and I always loved those opening shots of the city showing the sun turning the buildings into colorful mirrors. I chose to imitate those opening scenes to bring the city portion of the painting to life. For foreground I also wanted color but in the darker tones and sharp contrasts ususally seen very early in the mornings or late in the evenings. I re worked the forground of this painting at least twice. Finally instead of a grassy marsh, I added a water feature with the rising sun reflecting off the water towards the buildings.
