Description
A black Angus Bull is standing in an irrigation ditch alongside the road in outside Fresno, California. This was done from a photograph taken in 1959 along Chestnut Avenue in Fresno County.By 1959, the Okies who had migrated to California to escape the dust bowl had largely become integrated into society. My Uncle had worked on the docks as a boy when his father brought them to California. Given a choice, he mustered out here when he left the marines after World War II. He bought 10 acres in Fresno County and proceeded to try and raise cows and goats while he worked as a civilian employee for Lemoore Naval Station. This was his Black Angus bull, Snowball.
